Open Your Heart

Self-Care February Day 11: Work with your heart chakra to accept more love into your life

One of my favourite TV shows is The Booth on the End. If you haven’t seen it, you really must. In fact, go do it now. I’ll wait…

It’s a highly original show, cancelled too soon, which is entirely set in an end booth in a diner. A man with the power to grant any wish sits in that booth and people come to him to make their dreams come true. They are given a task to complete as payment for their wish and they have to come back and tell the man about their progress on the task.

One woman wants to be loved. She is told that she has to go and sleep with a number of men in order for this to happen. I don’t want to spoil the story for you if you haven’t seen it (and you really must!), but suffice to say that sex doesn’t equate love and the woman discovers that love comes in all shapes and sizes. She gets her wish.

We are all surrounded by love if we only open ourselves up to it. I regularly take time out to do channelled sessions with my guides and one message I used to get every single time was that I am so much loved, but I couldn’t see it. It took a lot of work with my heart chakra, but I don’t get that message any more because I appreciate just how loved I truly am. And I don’t just mean by the Universe either. (Although the Universe does love me!) I am loved by my children, my husband, my friends my students – so many people loving in so many different ways. Yet I couldn’t appreciate it until I did the inner work to open myself up to it.

In a chakra dance meditation class we work with the heart chakra in various ways to allow ourselves to clear any blocks we may have between us and the love all around. Classes are online, so you can join us from the comfort of your own home to move through each of your body’s energy centres, supporting that energy to flow freely.

But if you can’t make a class, here’s a little exercise you can try when you have a few moments.

Put on a song you associate with love. Choose one which makes you want to move your body – it doesn’t have to be fast. Slow and graceful is just as powerful as upbeat.

Close your eyes and tune into the music. You might like to place your hands over your heart and take a moment to feel your pulse.

When you are ready, start to dance. As you do, imagine, visualise or simply know that someone is dancing with you, someone who loves you. This could be someone from your current life – a parent, partner, child. It could be someone from your past who loved you. It could be someone who has passed on.

If you cannot think of anyone, then dance with someone you would like to love you. It could be a celebrity, someone you have feelings for, or even someone from your imagination. It doesn’t matter who you are dancing with, just dance.

As you dance with them, feel a pink rose unfurling at your heart chakra. When it is open, take it from your heart and give it to your dance partner, knowing that they are giving you a rose back and have someone else come to dance with you. Dance with as many partners as you need to reaffirm the love they have to give you.

Know that whoever comes to dance with you loves you very much and wants to be with you. Even if it’s someone with whom you have a difficult relationship in real life, in this moment, they are simply here to give you unconditional love.

We are all connected by love. Universal love is all around if you open yourself up to it. This simple little exercise can be incredibly intense, giving rise to profound emotions, so be prepared to allow yourself to cry if you need. It’s okay. We all need a release at times.

We will be working with the heart chakra at the Journey Through The Chakras retreat on 26 February. I will guide you to work through any blocks you may be holding in your heart, supporting you to be open to receive the love you so truly deserve.

You are very much loved.
